On 24th September, 2022 on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai College of Education and Research organized a Mental Health Awareness Talk for the students of B.Ed. The theme of this talk session was to create awareness about mental health and also to encourage the students to “Speak Up, Reach Out”. The session was planned and organized by the F.Y. B.Ed. students under the guidance of Ms. Surekha Chidambaranath. The chief guest for the event was Ms. Sharmilla Menon, former professor at St. Andrew’s College, Bandra. There were some special presentations from XIIth STD students of Bhavan’s College and Thakur Ramnarayan College. The students from Bhavan’s College, Mr. Abhimanyu and Mr. Devendra did a presentation on the effect loneliness has on the mental health of adolescents and the students from Thakur Ramnarayan College, Ms. Molika, Ms. Videesha and Mr. Karan presented on how sexuality / gender identity is one of the contemporary issues affecting mental health among adolescents. Ms. Sharmila spoke on the importance of good mental health among teachers and how to handle work stress efficiently.
