The Women Development Cell of MES’s Pillai College of Education and Research, Chembur, in association with Soroptimist Welfare Association (SIBC), organized an event on the occasion of World Day of International Justice. The theme for this event was “Advancing Women’s Rights and Social Justice in India: Progressing towards Gender Equality.” The session was in line with SDG #5: Gender Equality. The keynote speaker for the event was Ms. Kalyani Tulankar, a lawyer and a trained mediator, Bombay High Court and NCLT. Ms. Kalyani Tulankar, in her talk, emphasized the importance of gender equality as a fundamental aspect of social justice. She highlighted several critical points such as social, economic, and cultural barriers that hinder the progress towards gender equality. Ms. Kalyani also discussed the laws, policies, and constitutional provisions that aim to protect and promote women’s rights in India. The various judgements highlighted during the session were an eye opener in understanding social justice.
